My favourite mug and a cosy dressing gown

Riley’s Fish Shack in Newcastle 

What are your touring essentials?   

Pilates, herbal tea, dressing room snacks and Berocca  

What’s your go-to recipe whilst on tour? 

Avocado and eggs on a toasted bagel 

One of the best parts of being on tour is hearing in real time how much young audiences are engaged in the show and how it inspires them.

You’ll learn a lot about yourself and hopefully make a handful of lovely lifetime friends.

Katy Stephens because Katy Stephens 

What music inspires you? 

Anything that hits my soul 

What image or video inspires you? 

The This Girl Can Ad Campaign and Rami Malek’s Oscar speech 

What piece of writing or quote inspires you? 

What is for you will not go by you 

What, for you, makes a good piece of art? 

Something that can transport me to another place and evoke emotion   

What have been your career highlights so far? 

Othello, all 3 times. And working with Kenneth Branagh. 

If you were cast away on a desert island, which 5 plays would you take with you and why? 

Klippies, Pests, The Wasp, Anthony and Cleopatra and A View from the Bridge – because I’ve seen and loved them all so I’d be able to play them over in my head like an internal television! 

Please can you tell us what you would say to emerging artists to encourage them to take their work on the road or join an ETT tour? 

Do it! You’ll learn a lot about yourself and hopefully make a handful of lovely lifetime friends. And one of the best parts of being on tour is hearing in real time how much young audiences are engaged in the show and how it inspires them.

The ability to heal others

For ETT: Othello (in a co-production with Tobacco Factory and Oxford Playhouse).  

Hayat trained at the Identity School of Acting in London.
Other theatre credits include: If Chloe Can (National Youth Theatre); Waiting for Summer (Swivel Theatre); and Our Days of Rage (National Youth Theatre / Old Vic Tunnels). 

Film credits include: Picnic (The Russo Brothers) and Murder on the Orient Express (20th Century Fox).
