Wherever my family is.

Where is your home away from home?

In a place that’s balmy and warm enough to walk around in shorts and a t-shirt and flip flops.

How did you bring home with you on tour?

I have my tour slippers that keep me warm and comfy wherever I stay.

Which city was your favourite to visit on tour with ETT?

Newcastle

What gem did you discover on tour with ETT?

N/A never made it to that part due to COVID!

What are your touring essentials?

External phone charger so I can explore freely and find the best coffee.

What’s your go-to recipe whilst on tour?

Any kind of eggs – easy and nutritious.

A good piece of art is something that is unapologetic in its authenticity and finds connection with its audience.

Which artist(s) do you most admire and why?

Lowkey – brilliant music, powerful messages.

What music inspires you?

Deep house. I can lose myself in it and free myself of my worries, Gives my imagination space.

What piece of writing or quote inspires you?

“Fear is the only enemy” (a sanskrit saying I tattooed to myself during times of hardship)

What, for you, makes a good piece of art?

Something that is unapologetic in its authenticity and finds connection with its audience.

What image or video inspires you?

Nimisha Bhanot’s painting “My Kind of Wonder Woman”. I love it because I draw power and inspiration from it.  I see the celebration of a darker brown skin woman, and how femininity and strength, and east and west, can coexist within myself.  All her work is just so so good.

What have been your career highlights so far?

Testmatch rehearsal room and touring the country with a powerful play called Trojan Horse. Seeing the impact and power of theatre.

If you were cast away on a desert island, which 5 plays would you take with you and why?

This is a hard one, but here’s 5 that I can think of now: Hir, The Convert, Angels in America, Emilia, Brer Cotton. I just love plays that have something to say and say it powerfully and unapologetically. It’s what I love about theatre and what is unique about theatre.

Please can you tell us what you would say to emerging artists to encourage them to take their work on the road or join an ETT tour?

Supportive and brilliant team behind you. What more can you wish for?

Window or aisle seat?

Just not the one in the middle

Favourite way to travel?

Train

If you could have any superpower, which would you choose?

Absorb, retain, and analyse information at lightning speed.

Our industry is currently experiencing an incredibly challenging time. Do you have any recommendations for others of how to stay hopeful and creative during this time? Please feel free to add links to any projects, groups or initiatives that you’re part of or that you’d like to highlight.

Found there’s a lot of free/reduced price training and courses out there to stay sharp and creative. Find that stress reliever at home that takes you completely out of work mode and disconnects you from the world, and spend some time in there. Mine is video games! Really helped me.
