Actor and Writer

What shows or projects have you done with ETT?

Testmatch by Kate Atwell  and BODY r&d by Iman Qureshi

Where is home for you?

Hackney

Where is your home away from home?

The Atlantic Ocean

How did you bring home with you on tour?

I didn’t make it as far as the tour, BUT I usually bring a collection of books that I haven’t read and probably continue to not read them, but having unread books around and putting them on a make shift bookshelf makes me feel like home.

Which city was your favourite to visit on tour with ETT?

I didnt get as far as a tour with ett, but my favourite city I have toured to was probably Lisbon

What gem did you discover whilst working with ETT?

Stage door pub in southwark.

What are your touring essentials?

My crystals and sage. Making each room my own.

What’s your go-to recipe whilst on tour?

CURRY. I love cooking a big curry for whoever wants to join me. Throwing all my favourite vegetables and flavours in and cooking for as many people as possible.

Touring is important because Culture needs to spread. Like cross pollination!

I love how she channels her painfully honest stories of love and heartache, insecurity and anxieties into beautiful comedy.

Which artist(s) do you most admire and why?

Jessie Cave is a brilliant comedian and illustrator. I love how she channels her painfully honest stories of love and heartache, insecurity and anxieties into beautiful comedy. I find it healing and cathartic, as well as brilliantly funny.

What music inspires you?

SOUL MUSIC. I love the female vocalists of the 60s and 70s, and the ones inspired by them thereafter.

What image or video inspires you?

Nina Simone live at Montreux (or any of her filmed live performances)

What piece of writing or quote inspires you?

I love ‘Bone’ by Yrsa Daley Ward. When it was first published I bought it and carried it everywhere with me until it started to fall apart.

What, for you, makes a good piece of art?

Layers. Complexity. Narratives that are spun from different directions with multiple influences

What have been your career highlights so far?

Probably performing my own writing in London after a succesful run at the Edinburgh Fringe. It was great to be on home turf and with a familiar and healthy audience (and to be able to go home to my own bed)

If you were cast away on a desert island, which 5 plays would you take with you and why?

I’d have to chuck in some Tennessee Williams, James Baldwin, some Noel Coward, some Terrance Rattigan, (all gay men so far… how curious) and Kate Tempest all because they all have a deliciously indulgent, visceral and unique approach to the English language.

What you would say to emerging artists to encourage them to take their work on the road or join an ETT tour?

A rolling stone gathers no moss! Its amazing how much you learn about yourself when you are away from home. You grow in ways not possible when you stay in one place. She says. Having not left her house for three months…

A rolling stone gathers no moss!

A chance to plant seedling ideas and give them the right conditions to grow into fully formed works of art

Window or aisle seat?

Window

Favourite way to travel?

Train

If you could have any superpower, which would you choose?

psychic ability

Our industry is currently experiencing an incredibly challenging time. Do you have any recommendations for others of how to stay hopeful and creative during this time?

I am planning and curating a writing course for actors. It is a change to play on the page and practice putting pen to paper. A chance to plant seedling ideas and give them the right conditions to grow into fully formed works of art. I also run yoga and meditation classes which are inclusive (free for those who cant afford, but donations are welcomed!)

Lotte Rice’s biog:

I am a Yoga Teacher and Actor, who also writes and sings. After I graduated from drama school nearly 10 years ago, I began collecting hobbies to keep me creative and sane between jobs. Over the years I have turned them all into avenues of income, and find they all compliment each other beautifully. They keep me busy and engaged, and I always have something to be practicing, developing or learning.
