Michael Gould

An Actor.

What shows or projects have you done with ETT?
Othello

Where is home for you?
Where the heart is.

Where is your home away from home?
Where the art is.

How did you bring home with you on tour?
Photos of my family.

Which city was your favourite to visit on tour with ETT?
My Dubai Debut and (no shit) Shanghai (can I swear!)

What gem did you discover on tour with ETT (could be a landmark/park/cafe/pub etc)?
The Shanghai Maglev

What are your touring essentials?
Headphones, books, interdental toothbrushes.

What’s your go-to recipe whilst on tour?
I do like a spaghetti bolognese (and vegan versions recently).

Touring is important because communities across the UK have a democratic right for good theatre.

What music inspires you?  Currently: Ghosteen, Nick Cave.

Which artist(s) do you most admire and why?
Recently: Rembrandt, very smart with light.

What music inspires you?
Currently: Ghosteen, Nick Cave.

What image or video inspires you?
Apart from my showreel (lol), Geoff Hurst’s hat trick goal – “they think it’s all over”!!

What piece of writing or quote inspires you?
This is about actors in Hamlet: “Let them be well used, for they are the abstract and brief chronicles of the time. After your death you were better have a bad epitaph than their ill report while you live”.

What, for you, makes a good piece of art?
Complex simplicity!

What have been your career highlights so far?
Apart from working with ETT (of course), it has to be A View From The Bridge (Young Vic, West End and Broadway), great director (Ivo Van Hove) and fantastic company of actors.

If you were cast away on a desert island, which 5 plays would you take with you and why?
Hamlet, King Lear, The Writer, A View From The Bridge, The Seagull

Please can you tell us what you would say to emerging artists to encourage them to take their work on the road or join an ETT tour?
I think touring is important to de-bubble the bubble, if you get what I mean, to take in different perspectives.

Window or aisle seat?
Leg room on the right!

Favourite way to travel?
Train+W2

I would like to be able to fly, for the views, the freedom and a eco-cost-effective means of touring.
